Coaching Philosophy

As your coach, I see you making your own holistic path to address your dreams, opportunities, and challenges. We do this by walking side-by-side in a holistic coaching partnership that supports you in uncovering your way. We use curiosity, embodiment, humor and self-awareness to gain insights into how you will craft and traverse your path--and how you will adapt to the forks along the way. Through coaching, we utilize your contextual identities, environments, experiences, and values so that you can create your holistic and intuitive learning journey. As a trained holistic coach in the International Coaching Federation (ICF) standards, I practice their Code of Ethics, Core Competencies, and Values. I am also an active member of the ICF and ICF Oregon is my local chapter where I coach on Cowlitz, Sieletz, Grand Ronde, Clackamas, and Cascades Lands in Portland (source: native-land.ca).

Coaching Focus & Practice

  • I am a holistic coach with a focus on career transitions and balance, and I have a particular interest in coaching with workers in higher education, or workers who are transitioning from higher education into sectors other than colleges and universities. I am also keenly interested in working with people who have completed an EdD or PhD who want to gain clarity on if leaving academia is their next step, and determining their next steps.

  • My career transition went through the winding path of figuring out if I wanted to continue working in academia. While working in a full-time non-tenure teaching position, I had a sense that something else was going to be a better fit for me. Once I knew I wanted to do something else, I began to figure out what else I would like to do, and how I would go about making my transition. My experience being coached through serendipitous networking experiences helped me significantly in this process, and my experiences with coaches made me want to become a coach myself.

  • I have a small coaching practice where I work with a few people at a time. While career transitions and balance is my focus, I enjoy coaching with a variety or people and on a variety of topics through a holistic approach. I enjoy talking with people who are curious about coaching, and I have a network of passionate and skilled professional coaches who focus on a wide range of topics. Even if I am not the coach for you, I will likely know a few coaches you would like to meet next!

Experience & Training

  • I am a Certified Holistic Coach through the Holistic Coach Training Institute (HCTI), which is an ICF accredited provider of coach training. From January through June 2024, I will be their advanced 6 month training program.

  • Yes, I too work with a coach! Being coached—as a coach—is one of the best ways I further my coaching practice.

  • I am working toward my Associate Certified Coach (ACC) experience hours to apply for the ICF ACC credential. I am an International Coaching Federation (ICF) member and ICF Oregon is my local chapter.

  • This is my LinkedIn profile where my experience and eclectic academic studies can be found. Most of my working experiences orbit around education, learning and teaching. My academic studies were in music performance (BM), environmental studies (BS), geography (MA) and education (PhD).

Coaching Containers

A coaching container is the way coaches offer their services over a set period of time and with a particular number of sessions within a container. For my containers, I meet weekly or every other week for 60 minutes with clients. Most containers start out at 6 sessions but the number of sessions is based on the goals of the client and estimating the number of sessions needed to accomplish those goals. A one-hour session is $100 USD.

Coaching Container Process

  • Before starting a coaching container, we will first have a no-cost conversation to see if coaching together is a good fit for us both. Email or use the Contact Form to set up a time to talk. This conversation is an opportunity to get to know each other. We will talk about what you want to work on and what might be getting in the way of your goals. The intention of this call is to have you gain more clarity about what your next steps will be, which might be coaching or something else.

  • If a container is your next step, investing in the container is next. After payment is received, I share on boarding materials to review and complete before our initial session. These materials will include answering some questions that help set up the coaching container. There is also some materials to review that set you up for getting the most out of the coaching experience.

  • In our first session, we set up the overall coaching agreement for the container and the initial session is similar to a general coaching session but with a bigger picture in mind. The initial session will be referred back to throughout the container as a reference point. In the middle of the container, there is an opportunity to have a midway check during a coaching session.

  • Our final container session will be a wrap up session to look back, determine next steps, and conclude in a way that aligns with your process. Next steps after a container might be moving on, setting up a followup container, or something else that best aligns with your next steps.
